F-Gas Compliance Certificate
Mandatory leak inspection and compliance certificate for commercial refrigerant systems.
Overview
The F-Gas Compliance Certificate confirms that a stationary air conditioning, heat pump or refrigeration system has been leak-checked by a Category 1 certified engineer and that any leaks have been repaired and re-tested in line with UK F-Gas Regulation 2015/1191 (retained EC 517/2014).
Who needs it
Any business operating stationary refrigerant equipment containing 5 tonnes CO₂e or more — typically VRF/VRV systems, larger split systems, cold rooms, chillers and process cooling. The operator (usually the site occupier) is legally responsible.
How often
5–50 t CO₂e: every 12 months. 50–500 t CO₂e: every 6 months. 500 t CO₂e+ : every 3 months. Fixed leak detection halves each interval.
Legal basis
UK F-Gas Regulation 2015/1191 (retained EU 517/2014) and Regulation 1516/2007 on standard leak-check methods. Enforced in the UK by the Environment Agency, SEPA, NRW and DAERA.
